Beacon technology and proximity marketing and information services continue to be adopted by some of the world’s biggest brands. There is a growing understanding that these services are much more than an easier way to distribute coupons and discounts, but now truly engage users contextually.
The release of iOS 8 introduced a significant improvement to driving consumer adoption, by making it simple to see that location based information was available to iPhone users.
Automatic Shortcuts on the Lock Screen for iBeacons Apps
In iOS 8 Apple included an App icon to the bottom left of the standard lock screen this makes it possible to access location based Apps with a single swipe, similar to the way you access the camera from the bottom right camera icon on the lock screen.
What is a ‘location-based App’?
This new iOS 8 feature makes it simple to access the app that is most appropriate for your location. In the screenshot image the iPhone has come into range of a Beacon and it is showing that the HelloLocal App is the most appropriate App to show information for this location. This technology isn’t limited to HelloLocal we can apply it to all iBeacon developed Apps.
Easier for Your Customers.
The feature streamlines the access to your location-based App via the offers that you want your customers to receive. iOS 8 users will now enter your Beacon enabled location they can access your App from the lock screen with one simple gesture.
What about customer privacy?
Early fears of consumers being bombarded with location-based marketing notifications and offers are so far unfounded. The necessary privacy and opt-in settings have greatly reduced any possible risk, and studies have shown that provided the content is relevant and useful to customers they are happy to receive and be informed of offers/information which may benefit them.
